My Super Day at Elland Road!

A child comes out of the player's tunnel.

Thirty-five Year 5 children from Shakespeare
Primary school went to Leeds United's Elland
Road Stadium for the day.

We went there to learn about football ...and
to get better at writing.

"We are the Champions!"

Normally, it would have been Literacy followed by numeracy and just another day at school.  But today was different - we were going to Leeds United!

When we arrived at Elland Road we went to the Education room and met Mike Cook.  Mike got each of us a clip board and a pencil and a few pieces of paper which were stapled together.  The first thing we did was to mark off where we were on the map.

We walked outside to look at the amazing Elland Road stadium.  We circled the places off on our map once we had been there.  First, we went to the turnstiles. This is where the people come through on a match day.  Some children made a human turnstile and my friend Jack went through it.

Next we went to the statue of Billy Bremner.  He was a famous Leeds player.  It was made of bronze and we got our photo taken in front of him.

After that we went back into the stadium with all the coloured seats.  There were blue seats for the Leeds fans and yellow seats for the away fans.  Mike taught us some Leeds chants, ...but they weren't rude!  We even went in the manager's dugout.

It was a brilliant day and far better than being at school.

Today was the best school day ever.  I wish I could go there everyday.

"Wow, what a place!" "The foot of Billy Bremner!"
"John McClelland still entertaining!"
