Thankfulness is the theme at Harvest

Our first harvest in our new amazing school. And what a harvest it was! Our guests included Jo and Chris from Kidz Klub and Melanie from Burmantofts Senior Action group.

We collected an amazing amount of food that will be put into hampers and given to elderly people living in our local area.

During our assembly we sang songs and discussed how Harvest is a time to reflect and be thankful. Melanie, from Senior Action, did exactly that after she drove home with a car full of food to give away. Check out her much appreciated letter of thanks

'Dear Mr Gorton,

I am writing to thank you for the very warm welcome I received yesterday and the very generous Harvest Assembly donations from the pupils and families of Shakespeare Primary School to Burmantofts Senior Action.

We will be distributing the donated food over the next few weeks to members who may have just come out of hospital, have been bereaved or who are particularly vulnerable due to health or financial issues. This not only provides them with a good meal, but the knowledge that this is a gift from local young people gives a lovely sense of community.

To pick up the Assembly theme of thankfulness - we are very thankful that young people of this area and their families have thought of older people in the community. Thank you to every involved in this, particularly Mrs Wilson, the pupils who worked so hard to arrange and pack all the donations, and everyone who donated.

Your kindness and community spirit is very much appreciated.'
