Harvest 2019: Our Families are Amazing!
Every year at Shakespeare, we hold a special assembly to celebrate Harvest.
As well as singing some of our favourite songs like Conkers and Big Red Combine Harvester, we remember how food is produced and take time to be thankful for all that we have, and the people who work hard to produce it. We also ask our families to donate tinned and dried food, along with other essential supplies, which are donated to local community organisations.
School council were given the job of deciding which local organisation should receive our donations this year. They settled on Leeds South and East Foodbank after reading about all the wonderful work they do in their most recent newsletter. We spent a great morning together as a whole school discussing where our food comes from and learning about all the work that goes into it from farm to fork. An attitude of gratitude was the order of the day and KS2 school council members each shared some thanks for the donations that had been given by our Shakespeare families.
Harvest Festival 2019 was a record breaker! Our families donated so much food (including an amazing 138 tins) that LeedsSouthFood bank had to make two trips. Thanks to school council for heading it all up and a special thanks to Morrisons for their special donation to our cause after Olivia's dad, who works for Morrisons, told them all about what we were doing.
Our fabulous School council reps worked hard to load Sinead's (from Leeds South & East Foodbank) car, but there was simply too much to fit in one trip.
