Iron Sharpens Iron: Year 3 Go Back In Time
As part of our learning project on Tribal Tales, Year 3 went on a trip to Herd Farm for a real prehistoric experience! After a fun journey looking at the beautiful countryside of Leeds, we arrived at Herd Farm and felt like we had been transported back thousands of years to live like the first humans in Britain.
As soon as we had arrived, we quickly impressed our guide with our impressive knowledge of the prehistoric timeline and we were soon learning about how Stone Age people used trees as supermarkets! We then worked well in teams to make our own Mesolithic settlement! We thought about how cold we would be if we had to live in a home like that! It was fun climbing inside though!
We then travelled in time to the Iron Age and found ourselves in a real Iron Age settlement, we went inside real round houses and then ate our lunch around the fire like a real Celt tribe.
After an exciting lunch, it was time to be Iron Age warriors! We had our face painted to make sure we were ready for battle! We then learned how to throw spears across the battlefield. We also found out that spears were useful for hunting. Some of our warriors hunted down a deer for dinner to the delight of our cheering tribe.
Hannah carried back the deer heroically to our settlement where we then were surprised to find out that we were the 150th visitors to Herd Farm and they had made us a cake to say thank you to us for coming. What a lovely day!
A wonderful experience for everyone and I know it was one we will not forget as we continue our learning project Tribal Tales. Well done Year 3!
