World Book Day 2019
After the 'Beast from the East' foiled us not once but TWICE in 2018, the second Shakespeare Vocabulary Parade kicked off in 2019 with Cindy the Humpback Whale leading the Reading Ambassadors in a fun-filled assembly about the joys of reading.
Everybody had made a huge effort with their ‘word’ costumes not least, Miss Corbett, who had so many balloons attached to her, we thought she might take off! Four very clever teachers dressed up as our four houses: Creator, Discoverer, Explorer and Investigator.
There were many ‘tired,’ ‘drowsy’ and ‘sleepy’ children in the hall, all wearing their pyjamas! The BFG made an appearance as well as Willy Wonka and a very ‘smart’ Hermione. Prizes were given for the top three costumes in each class.
Then it was back to classes to perform poems such as Valerie Bloom’s ‘Pinda Cake’ and write our own versions based on famous models. The children performed poems to each other and took part in various reading activities such as pairing up with a reading buddy.
Our mini book worms ended the day by sharing a story, which was the theme of this year’s World Book Day. Thank you to everyone for making the day so much fun.
