Year Three’s Amazing Drama Experience
Over the last couple of weeks, the whole of Year Three has taken part in a fantastic drama experience based on their quality text, The Iron Man. Pavla Beier from Leeds Playhouse visited each class in turn and presented an action packed dramatic experience based on the book.
We have discussed the issues within the text and taken part in role-plays. We pretended to be the farmers in the story, acting out what sort of work they would do. We fed animals, ploughed the fields and heaved bales of hay. Then we were the children in the story, climbing ropes, jumping over the stream and telling each other tall tales about the Iron Giant who spits poison and eats children! Each group had to present a different freeze-frame and we gave our thoughts aloud. It was great fun. It helped us develop our language as we orally rehearsed what we had to say.
Pavla was on the hot-seat as Hogarth, one of the main characters and we asked her questions in role. This allowed us to understand the story. It has been really interesting to explore characters further and consider different viewpoints.
We have loved doing the drama work in the hall. There have been some Oscar winning performances too. Watch this space for some of Shakespeare’s names in lights in the future!
