Primary Maths Challenge for masterful mathematicians!

For the past few years, Shakespeare Primary School has been proud to enter the Primary Maths Challenge and compete against the very best mathematicians across the UK aged between 9 and 11.

For a number of children across Year 5 and 6, they took part in this year’s challenge on Friday 21st November. The 29 children who took part in the challenge had all also been invited to an after-school club to practise the skills required to solve such tricky problems with Mr Annis-Brown. With 5 weeks’ worth of after-school practice and problem solving, we had honed our skills and tested our thinking. We looked at a whole host of problems and challenges ranging from two-way tables to multiplication squares and many things in between (even puzzles posted for adults in the Guardian newspaper!).

On the day, the children did excellently and made their teachers feel very proud of their efforts and determination despite the fiendish nature of the challenge! We are very hopeful that a number of the children will be invited back to the ‘Bonus Round’ (which commences in February) because of their high scores. There’ll be another updated news article then so watch this space! In the meantime, congratulations to all the children who took part, worked hard and tried their best which is always what we want at Shakespeare Primary School.
