Year 3 Leeds Armouries Visit

Year 3 were lucky enough to visit the world-class Leeds Armouries museum earlier this half term, deepening our learning about the civilisation of Ancient Greece. After finding out about the city-states of Athens and Sparta in school, we were welcomed to the museum by a 'real-life' Spartan soldier, getting to see first-hand how well-suited to battle they were. We even had a go at following the instructions of the soldier, getting into formation, thrusting our lances and protecting ourselves with the wide circular shields that the Spartans used.

Following our first workshop, our journey into the ancient world of Greece just continued as we visited the oracle at Delphi to engage in an oral storytelling workshop. Our acting skills were absolutely outstanding as we got involved with bringing the tale of Perseus and Medusa to life. Luckily, she wasn't able to turn any of us into stone!

After a well-deserved lunch break, the day continued with an exploration of the museum itself. We were able to observe the relics and artefacts that have contributed to our understanding of this fascinating culture and society.

As always, our children were a credit to themselves and the school and even after a long day, our walk back was punctuated with members of the public coming up to the teaching staff to compliment the children how sensibly they were walking through the city. Excellence in the heart of Leeds!
