Year 5 Visit Magna Science Adventure Centre

Year 5 recently travelled to Magna Science Adventure Centre in Sheffield — a vast, awe-inspiring former steelworks transformed into one of the most exciting museums in the north of England.
The building itself made an immediate impression. Towering industrial machinery, enormous ceilings and the atmosphere of a place that once powered an entire region gave our children a genuine sense of history before the science even began.
Magna’s four pavilions explore the elements of Fire, Air, Water and Earth through hands-on activities that had our children completely captivated. Highlights included a breathtaking 500-degree fire tornado, shooting water cannons at targets, and chasing handkerchiefs through vacuum tubes — all brilliant ways of bringing scientific concepts to life in a way that stayed with every single child long after the coach ride home.

Speaking of which — the singing on that coach was something else entirely.
After lunch, the children made full use of Magna’s outstanding outdoor adventure playground, complete with zip line and climbing apparatus, rounding off a day that perfectly balanced learning and play.
Magna is exactly the kind of experience that reminds children — and teachers — why getting out of the classroom matters. It sparked curiosity, inspired questions, and left Year 5 buzzing with excitement. We cannot recommend it highly enough, and we are already looking forward to our next visit.
A brilliant day. Brilliant children. Sheffield, we’ll be back.
