Year 5 planetarium visit
All three Year 5 classes had an unforgettable planetarium visit on the 10th January 2024. There were audible gasps and visible awe, at the magnificent sight of the planetarium in the school hall. The visit was planned as it perfectly complemented our Earth and Space topic. It provided us with valuable information about how the Earth moves in relation to the Sun, the Moon's movement in relation to the Earth, and the concepts of day and night and the changing of seasons. Each class spent around 45 minutes immersed in the depths of space with an able human guide (thanks Colin!) helping us understand some of the mysteries of the universe. We watched a range of films before asking any questions we had.
It's amazing how the planetarium visit deepened our understanding and helped bring such large, momentous and abstract ideas into a more manageable and comprehensible representation. It is also incredible how immersive experiences like this can leave a lasting impact on young minds. Many children left the planetarium with a far better understanding of space and our relationship with it and loved the experience.
