Y6 Human Heart
Year 6 pupils recently took part in an exciting and memorable hands-on science lesson as part of their project on the human heart. As part of their learning, the children dissected a sheep’s heart to explore its structure and understand how it functions. Guided carefully by their teacher, pupils identified key parts of the heart, including the chambers, valves and blood vessels, linking their observations to what they had learned in class.

The session sparked curiosity and thoughtful discussion, helping pupils to see first-hand how the heart pumps blood around the body. Many pupils commented on how fascinating it similar the sheep’s heart was to diagrams and models they had previously studied on a human heart. The activity also encouraged teamwork, careful observation and scientific questioning.

This practical experience brought learning to life and deepened pupils’ understanding of an essential organ, making science both engaging and memorable.
