The artist, Meghan Earle, visited Year 4!
What a treat! Because of our focus on sketching skills, we have used the amazing Meghan Earle and her art as inspiration to create some artwork linked to the Stone Age.
Before we actually create these pieces, we wanted to work on sketching skills and had the privilege of having Meghan Earle herself visit our classrooms to offer tips, advice and her expertise on sketching and doodling. She spoke about her online shop where she is able to transform her art pieces into products and what this process involves. More importantly though, she was able to share with us the process she had for creating her pieces which often take several hours of development and refining. She highlighted how important it was to take inspiration from your surroundings when making art and how many of her pieces had started, at least in a small way, linked to something she could see or something she liked.
Additionally, Meghan gave live demonstrations of how she doodles using fine black markers which then allowed the children to understand the process more intimately. After that, all the children in Year 4 had the opportunity to create their own pieces using Meghan’s inspiration alongside some of the designs she had brought in to show the classes.
From speaking to the children, I know they had a truly memorable experience which will no doubt inspire many of them to continue to practise their art long into the future. Thanks Meghan!
